With the recent announcement of the Emmy noms I really wanted to put my thoughts down on paper. There are so many different things that I could talk about: Netflix making serious runs; Downton Abbey's growing power; FOX only getting 5 noms. None of these things compare to the colossal mistake of not giving Parks and Recreation more love.
I will not take the argument to five of the nominees, instead choosing to stay in the family and take notice with 30 Rock. Really!? Really? You're trying to tell me that 30 Rock limping to the finish line somehow beats out a fantastic comedy that is only getting better every year? I watched every episode of both shows and there is absolutely no way that Parks wouldn't beat 30 Rock head to head 90% of the time.
Why is this happening? There are so many things that go into these nominations, and we will never know. Is it simply the fact that 30 has won so many times that it should only be honored again? With that line of thought, Arrested Development should have gotten the nod with an equally confused season. If you asked NBC, I'm sure they would tell you that they are ecstatic to be in the running with any show, yet 30 Rock is dead and gone with Parks becoming the elder statesmen of the fourth place network.
Amy got a nom, which she deserves to get. But how can the rest of what can easily be called the best ensemble on television not get a single supporting nom? It makes it even harder for me when Jane Krakowski is taking one of the nominations, and she is single handily the reason 30 Rock fell from greatness.
In the end 30 Rock will be remembered as one of the great comedies of all time, and it should be since it has been consistently wonderful to watch. With less competition next year will Parks finally get that coveted nom, and possibly the win it deserves? It's impossible to say, because there is absolutely no guarantee that the show will be as strong as it was the last 2 years. The problem with missing the target this year lies in the fact that we are not recognizing greatness when it is right in front of us.
I agree! Parks rocks, and yes, 30 Rock was harder and harder to watch toward the end!
